Project 1

Project Description

The goal of this project was to use Adobe Photoshop to create an image using color as the main subject matter. We were instructed to create one version in RGB that was intended to be projected on screen, and another version in CMYK that was printed on a large-format printer. I took inspiration from a concrete sculpture outside of my dorm building. I thought the forms of the sculpture were interesting but found the gray concrete color to be rather bland. I challenged myself to create the design entirely out of vectors and gradient-fills so that the vibrant colors would be the focal point instead of any linework. Between the RBG and CMYK versions I adjusted the saturation levels and changed which sections had noise versus smooth gradients based on which I thought looked better on presentation method. I also chose to print on glossy paper to highlight the texture created by the noise and to best capture the richness of the black background contrasted with the vibrant statue shapes.
